2023 - 24 Minneapolis Boys High School Hockey Club
"The Girl Who Played Hockey" is a powerful and inspiring story about a south Minneapolis girl and 8 year skater in the Washburn youth hockey organization, Delaney Middlebrook, who triumphed over her heart diagnosis of long qt "sudden death" syndrome, overcoming 7 years of heavy dose beta blockers, ultimately having successful heart surgery at the Mayo Clinic at 17, her senior year of high school, to become a high level hockey player in high school (2 time all state), college (4 year D1 player) and professional(4 years playing in Swedish elite league) and who was inducted in 2017 into the inaugural Minneapolis Hockey Hall of Fame. Medical opinion and rules initially banned athletes with Delaney's diagnosis from competitive sports. Because of Delaney, these rules were changed. She is recognized by her specialist, the world renowned pediatric heart specialist, Dr Michael Ackerman of the Mayo Clinic, as "the real hero in all this." Delaney's story is a must read for anyone who is involved in sports or has children playing competitive sports. To purchase the book: http://www.girlwhoplayedhockey.com
